Active School Week 2021

Active School Week in Guardian Angels took place from Monday 26th – Friday 30th April and we had lots of extra fun activities and challenges to celebrate. During the week, we asked every class to complete 3 Energiser Challenges including Run Around Ireland and Active Dance. Active homework replaced written homework and there were extra yoga classes, playground games and a tug of war. Thank you to Dublin Fire Brigade, our GAA coach Johnny Magee, Ross Molony and Jonathan Sharkey of Leinster Rugby and all our teachers for setting extra challenges during the week.  During Active School Week we continued our usual activities like PE, cycling, Run a K a Day, the 10 @ 10 and Drop Everything and Dance. For GANS staff, the highlight of the week had to be watching the whole school take part in learning and performing the Footloose dance. Watch it here!

Thank you to all the parents and guardians who took the time to complete our survey and offer their feedback on the PE curriculum and various activities offered at Guardian Angels. An overview of the survey results can be viewed here. We also want to say a big thank you to all our parents and guardians for their amazing support and engagement with Active Week 2021 – for the obstacle courses that were created in gardens, for teaching football skills, taking family walks and bike rides. And for the scooting, dog walks and roller skating. It was incredible to see our pupils taking part in so many activities outside school – and having so much fun.

GANS is committed to promoting physical activity in our school and we were thrilled to achieve an Active School Flag during the 2016/2017 school year. We are now working hard towards achieving our second flag and regular updates are shared on Twitter. We strongly encourage all our pupils to achieve at least 60 minutes of physical activity every day and for them to get involved in sport to get active, stay fit and learn the importance of fair play and team work.
