Girls Gaelic Football 2013

The girl’s football team have had a busy season competing in Cumann na mBunscol ‘s Corn an Chladaigh. We played four games and in all these games the girls showed commitment, enthusiasm, great team spirit and pride in the Guardian Angels’ jersey.

Our campaign began on a wet afternoon in Ringsend against Scoil Mhuire, Sandymount. Despite facing a seasoned opposition the girls performed admirably in tough conditions and there was a notable improvement in the second half.

Mount Anville were the next opponents in Deerpark. This was a much closer affair with Mt. Anville prevailing by a single score in the end. The team performed superbly competing for every ball, with an outstanding performance by Ellen Deegan the highlight.

We travelled the short distance to Glenalbyn for our final group game against St. Raphaela’s. The astro suface contributed to a fast paced game which was nip and tuck throughout. There were outstanding performances from Jasmin Sheridan, Jenny Crowe, Ciara Carey and two wonderful goals from Lorna Doherty. Unfortunately the team effort was not enough with St. Raphaelas emerging victorious.

We returned to Ringsend for our final knock-out game against St Brigids GNS, Killester. Once again this was a tight game. Guardian Angels were leading at half-time thanks to some wonderful saves by goalkeeper Ruth Mulholland, and only an outstanding second half performance from St. Brigids was enough to overcome the fighting spirit of the Angels.

The whole panel deserve huge credit as they met each challenge with equal optimism and vigour. Their commitment was wonderful and it was great to see each player improve as the competition progressed. A particular word of thanks to our sixth class girls, many of whom have represented the school for a numbers of seasons. You’ll be missed!!

Well done to all members of the panel for representing the school so well.
