Active Schools

About the Active School Flag

The Active School Flag was launched by the Department of Education in 2009. It is a non-competitive initiative which seeks to recognise schools (both primary and post primary) that strive to achieve a physically active and physically educated school community. Guardian Angels’ NS is committed to promoting physical activity in our school.  Drop Everything and Dance and Run a Mile With a Smile are among some of the activities which help to keep the children in our school get as active as possible, as well as a host of extra curricular activities. We aim to include additional activities in the coming months in order for our school to achieve its first Active School Flag.

This year we will also focus on Gymnastics and Orienteering in our P.E programme.

In order to be awarded the Active School Flag Guardian Angels’ NS will:

1. Commit to a process of self evaluation in terms of the PE programmes and physical opportunities that we offer.

2. Plan and implement a series of changes that will enhance PE and extracurricular provision and promote physical activity.

The initiative encourages a partnership approach. It empowers schools to become more proactive in approaching groups like National Governing Bodies (NGBs), Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs), the HSE, Education Centres and the Professional Development Service for Teachers (PDST) to help and support them to develop their PE programmes and to promote physical activity.

Encourage your child to participate in 60 minutes of moderate intensity physical activity every day.

Keep an eye on our Twitter account for updates!!!

We look forward to our new Active Flag Activities over the coming months!!
